Asbestos Testing Services
To determine the amount of asbestos fibers in a particular building material (measured as a percentage by weight), a sample of the material must be properly collected by a licensed Asbestos Inspector and analyzed by an accredited laboratory. Each sample must be documented on a chain-of-custody form, delivered to an accredited laboratory, and analyzed by a certified laboratory technician.
The U.S. EPA defines a material as "asbestos containing" if it contains greater than 1% asbestos. To determine this, an inspector will take representative samples of accessible building materials. Once a sample tests positive for asbestos, it can be assumed that all other amounts of that material are also positive for asbestos.
Inspection and testing services are the first steps in attempting to manage environmental problems. Once these problems have been identified, plans to address them on an individual or collective basis may be drawn up, including quantification of material and cost estimates for remediation options.
Asbestos sampling is performed in accordance with EPA standards. All ARS, Inc. inspectors are EPA certified and IDPH licensed asbestos building inspectors with current certification. We partner with a laboratory that is National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited for analyzing asbestos.
